TrustZoneMap · Last updated: 13 April 2026
Overview
TrustZoneMap ("the app") is a personal safety information app that displays
UK crime data and includes an optional Family Fence feature for parental
location monitoring. This policy explains what information the app uses
and how it is handled.
Data We Collect
The app uses the following data:
-
Device location (all users) — used to look up nearby crime data
from the UK Police API. Your location is sent directly from your device
to the UK Police API (data.police.uk)
and is not stored by us.
-
Device location (Family Fence — children only) — if you join a
Family Fence group as a child member, your precise GPS location is stored in
Google Firebase Firestore and shared in real time with the group admin (parent).
This only occurs after explicit acceptance of the consent screen. Location data
is updated approximately every 60 seconds while the app is open.
-
Display name (Family Fence) — the name you enter when creating
or joining a Family Fence group (e.g. "Dad", "Emma") is stored in Firebase
Firestore and visible to the group admin.
-
Anonymous device ID (Family Fence) — Firebase Authentication
assigns a random anonymous ID to your device to link your location updates
to your group membership. This ID cannot be used to identify you outside the app.
Family Fence — Parental Controls
The Family Fence feature allows a parent or guardian (the group admin) to monitor
the real-time location and safety score of family members who have joined the group.
- The group admin's location is never stored or shared.
- Child members must explicitly accept a consent screen before their location is shared.
- Child members can see that their location is being shared at all times.
- Location sharing for child members is managed by the group admin and cannot
be disabled from the child's device — this is intentional parental control behaviour.
- The group admin can remove any member at any time, immediately stopping location sharing.
- Dissolving the group immediately stops all location sharing.
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services:
-
UK Police API
— crime records for England, Wales, and Northern Ireland (public data).
-
Nominatim / OpenStreetMap
— address search and reverse geocoding.
-
postcodes.io
— UK postcode coordinate lookup.
-
MapLibre GL JS
with OpenStreetMap tiles — map rendering.
-
Google Firebase
(Firestore & Authentication) — used exclusively by the Family Fence feature
to store and sync location data between group members. Data is stored in the
EU (europe-west region). Google's privacy policy applies to data processed
by Firebase.
Cookies & Tracking
The app uses no cookies or advertising identifiers. No data is sold to third parties.
Firebase uses an anonymous device identifier solely for group membership — it is
not used for advertising or analytics.
Data Retention
Family Fence location data is retained in Firebase Firestore only while a user
is an active member of a group. When a member is removed or a group is dissolved,
their location data is deleted immediately. To request deletion of any remaining
data contact us at the email below.
Children
The Family Fence parental control feature is designed for use by parents and
guardians to monitor the safety of children aged 13 and over. The app does not
knowingly collect data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
Parents who set up Family Fence for younger children take responsibility for
compliance with applicable laws (COPPA, GDPR-K).
